How it works

Touch. Breathe. Reset.

Ten seconds, three steps, and a physical object you already have on. This is the whole practice, and there is nothing else to learn.

The three steps

Touch

Find the beads with your fingers. Feel the weight and the cool of the stone against your wrist.

Breathe

One slow breath in. One slower breath out. Long enough that your shoulders notice.

Reset

Come back to the present, then decide what actually deserves your attention next.

That is it. Go back to your day.

Why a physical cue beats a good intention

Everyone already knows they should pause and breathe. Almost nobody does it, because the moment you most need to is exactly the moment you are least likely to remember.

A habit needs a trigger that exists outside your own attention. That is the entire reason the bracelet is there. It is weighted, cool against the skin, and different enough from everything else you are wearing that finding it with your fingers is a distinct physical event rather than a thought.

Interrupting a spiral physically works better than arguing with it. Once the loop is broken, one slow breath is usually enough to get a decision out of you instead of another lap of the same worry.

Make the breath do the work

If you only change one thing, make the exhale longer than the inhale. A four second breath in and a six second breath out is a reasonable target, but do not count if counting stresses you. Long enough that your shoulders drop is the real measure.

Then decide one thing

The reset is not finished when you feel calmer. It is finished when you have picked what happens next. One thing, named. Send the message, close the laptop, go for the walk, start the task you have been circling.

Calm without a decision tends to evaporate the moment you look at your phone again.

Do it badly, often

This is not a meditation practice and there is no correct way to perform it. Ten sloppy resets in a week will do more for you than one perfect one. The bracelet is on your wrist either way.
